Gene Cox

(540) 742-5385

I founded CoxFedLaw to meet the legal needs of working men and women in the Shenandoah Valley. Having grown up in a small town with a strong sense of community, I am committed to helping my neighbors get the legal service they need, with the personal attention they deserve.  Like most of the people that I grew up with, my parents had to live paycheck-to-paycheck.  I believe that everyone, and not just the wealthy, are entitled to zealous protection of their personal liberty.  I truly believe that no matter who you are, and no matter what you have been charged with, you are entitled to the very best defense.  I have dedicated my practice to providing the best defense to everyone who needs my help.

I grew up in Iowa and attended Iowa State University, where I majored in History and Russian. I attended law school at the University of Houston, where I graduated with honors in the top ten percent of my class. In recognition of these achievements, I was honored to be elected to the Order of the Coif.  I also obtained an advanced law degree called an LLM from Georgetown University.

I have been admitted to practice law in Virginia for over 25 years. I am a retired military judge advocate (JAG) with years of experience as a prosecutor and defense counsel. I also served as a senior attorney with the DEA, so I understand how Law enforcement agencies operate and the strategies they use to put people in jail. Over the years, I have witnessed the needless damage suffered by people who did not have effective legal representation. Often, they were convicted of offenses and received punishments that were all out of proportion to anything they did because they did not have an experienced advocate on their side. I am dedicated to advocating for my clients, helping them understand the charges against them and crafting the very best defense to those charges.  Not everyone can be acquitted but everyone has the right to receive the best legal defense possible.

Local Law Expert

During my career, I have had the opportunity to travel all over the world and have tried over 100 cases before juries in various countries. I enjoy putting my years of experience to work for my clients here in the Shenandoah Valley. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to sit down with someone who has a problem, explain and explore their options, and lift a burden off of their shoulders by helping to secure their future and that of their family. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

“The prosecutor turned down my offer of 19 years because they wanted to send me to jail for life.  Mr. Cox did a fantastic job defending me at my trial and the jury returned in 45 minutes and acquitted me of all charges.  I now have a future thanks to Mr. Cox.”
